Child-abduction rumour: Mentally challenged woman beaten up in Kushtia

A case will be filed by her family, said police

A mentally challenged woman has been beaten up by a mob in Kushtia on suspicion of being child-abductor. 

The 55-year old woman identified as Hasina Begum is from Daulotpur Upazilla in the district.

The incident occurred on Monday morning at the upazilla's Refayetpur union area.

Reports quoting local people and police said that the mob attack victim Hasina Begum, known to have  been a mentally challenged patient, was undergoing treatment at her son-in-law Ashiqur Rahman's house in the Mastar parha village in Daulotpur.

Ill-fated Hasina Begum was beaten up by a group of people when she had went out to Shetlaiparha on suspicion of being a child-abductor.

Hasina suffered severe wounds including laceration in her forehead. On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued the women and arranged first aid medical treatment. 

Later, she was taken home by her husband.

Daulotpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Azam Khan said "Locals suspected the woman to be a child-abductor and beat her up."

Police rescued the victim and handed the woman over to her family after arranging medical treatment.

A case will be filed by her family, said police.
