According to her father Mojammel Hossain Kishor, the local lawmaker, and his son are contriving to frame Minni

After meeting with Ayesha Siddika Minni, her father threatened to commit suicide over allegations of forcing her to confess.

According to her father Mojammel Hossain Kishor, the local lawmaker, and his son are contriving to frame Minni.

He said: “The police got my daughter to confess to false charges by threatening her with torture. It seems the police are working to divert the case’s attention away from the real murderers. They turned her from a witness to a suspect.

Minni’s mother Mili Akhter said: “They beat my daughter so much that she grew sick. We could not even talk to her properly because plainclothes policemen surrounded us at the jail.”

Investigating Officer Humayun Kabir dismissed the charges, and claimed Minni gave the confession of her own accord.

Lawyer finally represents Minni

Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam, general secretary of Barguna Association of Lawyers, has been appointed by Kishor to represent Minni. During the previous hearing, Minni appeared without any legal counsel, despite three lawyers having agreed to represent her.

The absence of legal defence for a plaintiff in such a sensational case drew sharp criticism.

Rifat Farazi confesses

The second suspect in the case, Rifat Farazi, confessed before a judicial magistrate on Saturday afternoon. Investigating Officer Humayun Kabir said Rifat had been interrogated three times before he admitted to his involvement in Rifat Sharif’s murder.

Rifat Sharif was viciously cut and beaten, in front of his wife Minni on June 26, outside Barguna Government College. CCTV footage of Minni trying to save her husband from the attackers went viral on social media. They key suspect Nayan Bond was shot dead during a ‘gunfight’ by the police. Police have so far arrested 15 people including Minni.
