RCC mayor for enhancing fish farming to ensure food security

The guests distributed prizes among some of the fish farmers as recognition to their laudable contribution to fish farming and production

Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton has underscored the need for furthermore boosting fish farming through the best uses of existing natural resources for reduction of protein deficiency and poverty.

He said this while was addressing the inaugural ceremony and discussion related to the National Fisheries Week-2019 jointly organized by Department of Fisheries (DoF) and District Administration in Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy auditorium as chief guest yesterday.

He viewed that all the government and non-government organizations concerned and farmers should come forward and work together for boosting fish farming as it plays vital role to income and employment generation, protein supply and poverty reduction.

Deputy Commissioner-in-Charge Parvej Raihan chaired the program.

Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Nisharul Arif, Divisional Deputy Director of DoF Hassan Ferdous Sarker and Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah also spoke as special guests.

District Fisheries Officer Alok Kumar Shaha in his welcome speech narrated the district level fisheries extension and development activities with highlighting the potentials of the sector.

Referring to the immense prospect of the fisheries sector, Mayor Liton said fish production could easily be increased to a great extent if the natural resources were utilized properly.

He recommended inspiring the farmers, providing them with latest scientific technologies and educating them in producing quality fish fries to boost production.

Taking part in the discussion, some of the attending fishermen stressed the need for mitigating all the existing problems being faced by the fish farmers to attain the cherished goal.

Later, the guests distributed prizes among some of the fish farmers as recognition to their laudable contribution to fish farming and production.

Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo and parading the main thoroughfares before being ended at the meeting venue.

Later, the chief and special guests also released fish fingerlings in ponds of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Park and Zoo.
