Youth held over spreading rumours on Padma Bridge

Drives to continue to nab those spreading misinformation, says RAB

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a youth on allegations of spreading rumours on social media over the construction of Padma Bridge in Jamalpur.

Md Riyad Miah alias Rinku was arrested from his residence in Gopalnagar Dattapara village of Islampur upazila of Jamalpur around 5:30pm on Tuesday, RAB said in a statement.

The statement said a RAB team, led by RAB 14 CPC 1 Jamalpur Camp Company Commander and Superintendent of Police (SP) Tofayel Ahmed Miah, conducted a drive in the village and arrested Riyad.

RAB said Riyad allegedly posted a status on facebook with a fake comment quoting the prime minister regarding the construction of Padma Bridge. 

“Riyad confessed about his crimes during the primary interrogation. He will be handed over to Islampur police station soon after the case is filed under the Digital Security Act,” Tofayel said.

He further said they drives against individuals spreading such misinformation will continue.

Earlier on July 12, RAB arrested Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six people over same allegations regarding the Padma Bridge construction.

They were arrested from places of separate districts at different times and then handed over to police.
