Two sentenced to life in prison for rape

In Narayanganj, a schoolgirl was reportedly raped on several occasions since February in Rupganj upazila

Two rape suspects were served life imprisonment after they were convicted of rape following lengthy trials in Kushtia and Sirajganj courts yesterday.

In Kushtia, a man was sentenced to life and fined Tk1.5 lakh for raping a schoolgirl in the Sadar upazila in 2007.

The accused, Zafirul Islam alias Polok, 30, had abducted the girl and raped her in a banana orchard on July 21, 2007. 

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Munshi Moshiar Rahman gave the verdict, confirmed Public Prosecutor, Advocate Akram Hossain Dulal.

In Sirajganj, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir sentenced a man to life for raping a woman in Shahjadpur upazila.

On December 23, 2005, the man broke into the woman's home and raped her, said Public Prosecutor Anwar Parvez Limon.

Two more arrested for rape

In Bogra, police arrested a 60-year-old man for reportedly raping a mentally challenged teenager.  

Abdus Sattar was arrested on Monday night, said Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Sohel Rana.

According to the case filed by the girl's mother, on Friday, the 15-year-old took shelter from the rain on Sattar's balcony. Sattar forced the girl to his room and raped her.

The girl was taken to a local hospital for medical tests.

In a separate incident, police arrested a man from Barisal for reportedly raping a girl in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra.

Police arrested the accused, Miajul Islam, 25, on Monday, said Dupchanchia police station SI Abdus Salam.

According to the case statement, Miajul raped the girl with promises of marriage and fled Bogra after a local arbitration on June 23 ordered him to marry the girl.

Meanwhile, in Bogra town, police arrested a man on Monday in a case filed for uploading a college-girl's doctored photos on Facebook.

The accused, Imran Sheikh Imon, 24, is a third year student of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and son of a Bogra police SI, said SI Sohel.

In Narayanganj, a schoolgirl was reportedly raped on several occasions since February in Rupganj upazila.

According to the case filed with Rupganj police station, the accused, Shwapan Mia, 30, abducted the girl on her way home on February 1 and raped her. Since then Shawapan raped the girl on several occasions, threatening to kill her. When the girl fell sick, the duty-doctor of a local hospital said the girl was pregnant.
