Two killed in Cox’s Bazar hilltop collapse

A husband and wife have been killed in a hilltop collapse in Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident occurred in Bomurkul area of Bomobilchari union around 3am on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Md Anwar Sadeq, 35, son of Rabiul Alam, and his wife Waresa Begum, 30.

Bomobilchori union parishad (UP) Chairman Abdul Matlab said: “Due to heavy rain last night [Sunday], the hilltop collapsed over Anwar’s house, killing the couple. Later locals recovered the dead bodies from the heap of soil.”

“We have already informed the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), and will bury the bodies with their permission,” he said. 

Many other hills in the union are at risk of collapsing, he added.
