Police said action was taken against ASI Shahanur after the allegation was found to be true in primary investigation
An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police has been closed for allegedly torturing a woman physically at Dhunat police station in Bogra over dues.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Ismail Hossain said the action was taken against ASI Shahanur Rahman on Friday after the allegation was found to be true during primary investigation.
The victim, Kohinoor Khatun, a resident of Nataipara Boubazar in Bogra town, was admitted to Dhunat Upazila Health Complex.
Kohinoor said she used to run a food shop in front of the Judge's Court in the town and ASI Shahanur used to take food from it. She also claimed that he took Tk60,000 from her as loan.
When she asked for money, the police official stopped communicating with her. Later on, she served a legal notice on him.
The police officer called the victim to Dhunat police station on Friday morning in the name of returning her money. At one stage, they locked into an altercation and he beat her up and drove her out of the station.
Contacted, Shahanur claimed that Kohinoor had long been demanding money from him threatening to implicate him in false cases.
"To avoid harassment, I had given her Tk60,000 through a settlement. Even after that, she came to the police station again and threatened to file a case against me. Being angered, I slapped her."
The OC said the Bogra Superintendent of Police (SP) Mokbul Hossain was informed of the matter and later Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gazipur Rahman found the allegation to be true after primary investigation and ordered action against the ASI.
Departmental action would be taken against him after further investigation, he said.
