A mentally challenged man was killed in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria on Wednesday, in a mob beating on suspicion of being a child abductor.
Sources said, the unidentified 30-year-old man was wandering around the railway station area over the last few days. Finding his behavior abnormal, locals beat him up simply on suspicion, leaving him critically injured.
Ashuganj police station OC Masud Alam said: "We rescued the critically injured man from angry locals and he died on the way to hospital. Upon primary investigation the man seemed mentally challenged.
The man's identity is still a mystery. We took his dead body to the Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem," the OC added.
