There have been four incidents of rape and sexual harassment in four districts, where women and children alike were the victims in the past four days.

In Jhalakathi, a woman—mother of two—was gang-raped by two men in Rajapur upazila.

Following the incident, local influential men offered the woman Tk10,000 as compensation.

The woman rejected the offer, and filed a case on Wednesday accusing two locals Shojib, and Razzak.

According to the case statement, on Monday, the duo swooped on the woman at the barn near her house, and raped her by taking turns.

Rajapur police station OC Md Jahid Hossain said: “We will soon arrest the men accused in the case.”

In Rajbari, a 12-year-old girl with a learning disability was raped.

According to the father of the rape survivor, she had gone out to graze a goat on Tuesday morning when Amir Ali Sikder, a local, forcibly dragged her to a nearby jute field, and violated her.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot, and rescued the girl. Amir managed to flee the scene, he added.

A case was filed with Kalukhali police station on Wednesday afternoon against Amir Ali Sikder, said Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station yesterday.

Amir Ali, 22, is a resident of Harinbaria village under the upazila.

The girl underwent medical tests at Rajbari General Hospital on Wednesday. The report is expected soon.

The OC said they were conducting drives to arrest the accused.

In Chittagong, a 20-year-old woman was gang-raped allegedly by the driver of an auto-rickshaw, and two other passengers while she was returning home from her work in Chittagong.

The incident took place at the Chowmohoni area of Anwara upazila, around 8pm on Wednesday.

The survivor is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Dulal Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Anwara police station, said: "The woman works at Karnaphuli Shoe Factory in the Korean EPZ. Like every day, she boarded an auto-rickshaw to return home after work [on Wednesday].

“Finding her alone, the auto-rickshaw driver, and two other passengers gang-raped her, and left her abandoned on the road in a critical condition," he added.

Pedestrians found her, and informed her family, and she was later taken to CMCH.

OC Dulal added: "We have already started investigating the incident. Necessary legal action will be taken after collecting detailed information from the survivor, who is in a critical state as she was bleeding profusely after the rape."

In Chandpur, a fifth-grade student was sexually harassed by her private tutor at a coaching centre in Shahrasti upazila.

Police arrested the prime accused Omar Faruk, 33, and produced him before a court yesterday, said Shahrasti police station OC Md Shah Alam.

A case was filed, which stated that on Monday, Omar kept the girl back, while he sent the other students home. He then touched the girl inappropriately.

After the girl told her parents, they became very worried, and sought help from the police.
