Five people were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Chittagong and Gaibandha on Thursday.
In Gazipur, two people were killed and two others injured when a truck hit a human hauler on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Rangila Bazar in the Sreepur upazila.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Sreepur police station OC Delwar Hossain said: "The accident took place around 1:30am when the Mawna-bound truck hit the onion-laden human hauler, leaving a passenger of the human hauler dead on the spot and three others injured."
The injured were taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared another passenger dead.
In Chittagong, two people were killed and two others injured in a road accident in the Monshartek highway, Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased are Ali Bahadur, 58, and Dayal Shill, 43, both hailed from Charkhani village of Patiya upazila.
Patiya Highway Police Outpost OC Minazur Rahman said: "The accident occurred when a betel leaf-laden truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leaving four persons injured. Later the injured were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where two succumbed to their injuries."
Police seized the truck but its driver escaped from the scene.
In Gaibandha, a man was killed and three others injured in a road accident in Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Gobindaganj.
The deceased, Raju Mia, 35, hailed from Shakpala village of Phulbari union of the upazila.
According to police, the accident occurred as a truck collided head-on with a three wheeler auto-rickshaw, killing Raju on the spot and injuring the other three.
Gobindaganj Highway Police OC Akhtaruzzaman said: "After a collaborative effort, police and fire service recovered the body and sent the injured three to the Upazila Health Complex. We handed over Raju's dead body to his family. We are trying to arrest the miscreants."
