One killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

RAB recovered two firearms, 10,000 yaba pills and seven bullets

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox's Bazar.

The deceased was identified as Salim Ullah, 36, from Teknaf upazila’s Natun Pallan Para. 

The shootout occurred near Jhaubagan of North Shilkhali Marine Drive, in the early hours of Wednesday. 

RAB-15 Wing Commander Azim Ahmed, confirming the news said: "Based on a tip, a team of RAB-15 conducted a drive to seize yaba tablets. But the drug dealers opened fire when they saw us, and the RAB team shot back. Salim was killed in the ensuing shootout.” 

After the gunfight, RAB recovered Salim's body and sent it to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Two RAB members were also injured. RAB also recovered two firearms, 10,000 yaba pills and seven bullets from the spot.

"Salim was wanted in several cases,” added Azim.
