Five killed by lightning strikes in Satkhira

The incidents occurred on Friday morning

At least five people, including three members of the same family, died in separate lightning strike incidents in Kaliganj and Assasuni upazilas in Satkhira yesterday morning.

The deceased were identified as Al Amin, 22, his wife Sabina Khatun, 18, and his brother Robiul Islam, 20. The two others are Munsur Ali Gazi, 50, and Jewel Sardar, 25.

Al Amin, Sabina and Robiul died on the spot when a lightning bolt struck their tin-shed roof at their residence in Garoimahol village under Kaliganj upazila around 10am.

Meanwhile, Monsur Ali, 50, was struck by thunderbolt when he was working in a crop field at Bijoynagor village in the same upazila and also died on the spot.

Kaliganj police station OC Rajib Hasan confirmed the incidents.

In Assasuni upazila, a thunderbolt struck Jewel Hossain, 24, while he was returning home from a fish enclosure at Madra village in the morning , leaving him dead on the spot, said Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Assasuni police station.
