Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday evening arrested the teachers, including the headmaster of Oxford School

More than 20 schoolgirls have been found as victims of rape and sexual harassment at the hands of two of their teachers over the span of four years in Shiddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday evening arrested the teachers, including the headmaster of Oxford School — located in the upazila’s ward No 2.

The arrestees were Zulfiqar alias Rafiqul Islam, 55, the headmaster and founder of the school, and Ariful Islam Sarkar alias Ashraful, 30, an assistant teacher, RAB 11 Assistant Director Md Alep Uddin confirmed Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

RAB members also recovered obscene photos of Ariful with the schoolgirls after searching his phone, laptop and camera.

Alep Uddin, also an SP, said: “Based on a tip-off, we came to know that Ariful has been sexually harassing and raping his female students for a long time.

“Acting on that information, we conducted a raid at the school and arrested the teachers. The contents found on his phone were extremely disturbing.”

He added: “There were evidences of Ariful raping more than 20 students found on his electronic devices. We have also found some devices which we have not been able to check yet.”

A primary interrogation revealed that headmaster Zulfiqar had been aiding and abetting Ariful in his heinous crimes, said RAB official Alep.

He said the elite force had not received any complaints from the families of the victims and they were conducting the investigation on their own accord.

The victims’ families will soon be notified and legal actions will be taken once a case is filed, he said.

But, if any case is not filed, they will charge the arrestees under the Cyber Security Act.

Hundreds of locals had also gathered and demonstrated in front of the school on Thursday condemning Ariful’s appalling crimes. They also demanded exemplary punishment of the accused and the closure of the school.
