Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan, on Wednesday, said that if investigation into the Kulaura accident find anyone guilty of negligence, then, strict action will be taken against the people responsible.

He remarked thiswhile talking to reporters after visiting victims of the derailment  at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Five people were killed—and 67 people were injured—when six coaches of a Dhaka-bound Upaban Express train from Sylhet derailed, at Baramchal in Kulaura upazila on Sunday.

He said the government is planning to upgrade the railways—from Akhaura to Sylhet on the Dhaka-Sylhet route—to dual gauge. A project worth Tk16.14 lakh was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

Replying to a question about allegations of negligence in Sunday night’s accident, the minister said a three-member probe committee was formed to look into the matter.
