10 killed, 64 injured in road crashes in 8 districts

These accidents took place on Wednesday

At least 10 people were killed, and 64 were injured in road accidents in eight districts on wednesday.

In Brahmanbaria, a woman was killed, and three others injured after the auto-rickshaw carrying them was rammed by a truck in Chandiara sadar upazila, around 12:30pm. 

The deceased Parveen Begum, 45, and the injured are members of the same family.

The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, he added.

Police seized both the vehicles. A case was filed, and an investigation is underway. 

In Lalmonirhat, two people were killed, and six others injured in a head-on collision between a truck, and an auto-rickshaw  at the Burimari-Lalmonirhat landport, near Palashi bazar area, around 7am. 

The deceased are Robiul Islam, 33, the auto-rickshaw driver, and Nandu Barman, 52, the passenger. 

Aditmari police station OC Saiful Islam said: “Police reached the scene, and recovered the bodies. The six injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.”

Following the accident, the police arrested the truck’s driver. 

Mymensingh, two people were killed when a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Lengra Bazar in Muktagaccha upazila around 6:30am.

The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, reports UNB.

Muktagaccha police station OC Ali Mahmud said, a Mymensingh-bound goods-laden truck fell into the ditch early in the morning, killing the driver, and his assistant.

Police recovered the bodies, and sent them to local hospital for autopsy.

In Nilphamari, a man, and his grandson were killed when a pickup van hit them in Syedpur upazila.

The deceased Rahamatullah, 65, died on the spot and his grandson Turag, 02, died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. 

Locals caught the driver and his assistant, and handed them over to the police. They also blockaded the road for a short period of time.

In Gaibandha, at least 50 passengers were injured after a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway near Palashbari and Gobindaganj upazilas around 3am.

Gobindaganj Highway police station OC Md Aktaruzzaman said: “The injured were rescued to several local hospitals, some of whom are in critical condition.”

The bus driver and his assistants fled the scene, he added.

In Tangail, a man died, and five others were injured in a collision between a CNG and an auto-rickshaw in Kalihati upazila.

The deceased was Abdur Razzak, 35, the auto-rickshaw driver.

In Feni, a man was killed when run over by a truck in Temuhani on the Maizdi road.

The deceased Md Hanif, 30, was a CNG auto-rickshaw driver.

The truck was seized but its driver fled, police sources said.

In Jessore, a woman, mother of two was run over by a truck on the Jessore-Chougachha road.

The deceased Sharmin Sultana Toma, was heading back after sitting for her master’s exam.

The truck was seized but its driver fled.
