Police arrested two men for reportedly gang raping a sixth grade madrasa student in Ghatail, Tangail.

The detainees, Alamgir Hossain, 35, and Abdul Hamid alias Alpin, 40, of Bakshia in Doshani upazila reportedly gang raped the girl on Friday, June 21.

According to the case statement, the accused rapists, Alamgir and Alpin, took the girl as a passenger in Alpin’s three wheeler and lured her to a nearby backyard. Then they forcibly gang raped her. When she became unconscious and injured, the two fled the scene. Later, locals took the initiative to resolve the matter at a village arbitration meeting.

Failing to reach an agreement at the meeting, the girl’s mother filed a case under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act on Monday, June 24.

Ghatail police station OC Enamul Haque Chowdhury said: “Acting on the case we arrested the alleged two rapists and allowed a 3-day-remand by the Tangail Senior Judicial Court to investigate the case. We took the girl to Tangail General Hospital for medical tests.”
