SBMCH doctors protest attack on Barguna colleague

Dr Mashiur was attacked by relatives of a deceased patient

Doctors of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) formed a human chain on Monday afternoon, protesting the attack on a doctor that took place in Barguna General Hospital. 

The human chain was formed in front of SBMCH to protest the attack on Medical Officer Dr Mashiur Rahman of Barguna General Hospital on June 19. Dr Mashiur Rahman was beaten by some of the relatives of a deceased patient, during an altercation that ensued at the hospital around 12 am on that day.

The speakers at the protest condemned the attack, and said: "Doctors always try to do their job sincerely, and for the well being of patients, however in recent days doctors are often being assaulted verbally, and physically."

The doctors at the protest demanded exemplary punishment of those culprits who assaulted Mashiur, and they also demanded safety, and security of the physicians at their workplace.

Among others, president and secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association(BMA) district unit Dr. Maniruzzaman Shahin, organizing secretary of SBMCH Outdoor Doctors Association Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Dr. Shourav Sutar, and Dr. Nurunnabi Tuhin were present at the protest meet.
