Journalist attacked in Netrakona

He was attacked near Kendua Press Club on Sunday afternoon

A group of unknown miscreants attacked and severely injured a journalist in Kendua, Netrakona.

The injured, Aynal Haque was an upazila correspondent of Daily Ittefaq and is now editor of Daily Netrakona.com. He was attacked near Kendua Press Club on Sunday afternoon.

According to sources, a group of unidentified men beat and severely injured Aynal with iron rods, breaking his left leg. Locals took the severely injured journalist to the Upazila Health Complex. He was later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The injured journalist, Aynal Haque, said that since he published an article about local  discontent with a Hindu MP, Asim Kumar Ukil, laying the foundation stone at a local mosque, he had been receiving death threats from the MP's followers. 

He said: “The attack followed up on those threats.”

Kundua police station OC  Rashedujjaman said: “ We heard about the attack, but no case has been filed about the incident. But a General Diary (GD) against Aynal was filed.”  The OC declined to identify who filed the GD against journalist Aynal.
