The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and police have released a rescued endangered turtle in the Gorai River at Kumarkhali, Kustia.
The nearly 50-year-old turtle weighed 15kg and was released in the river on Sunday morning.
Upazila DLS official Noore Alam Siddik said: “The reptile is of an endangered species and it is supposed to be twice its size.”
Kumarkhali police station Officer-in-Charge AKM Mizanur Rahman said: “Sensing one of our patrol teams in the bazaar, a man ran away leaving a bag carrying the turtle. We rescued it and informed the upazila DLS office. Later, we released the turtle in the Gorai.”
