Suspected top criminal among 3 killed in 'gunfights' in 3 districts

Nine people were also injured in the 'gunfights'

Three people have been killed in separate "gunfights" with police in three districts.

Nine people have been injured in "gunfights" in three districts-Comilla, Dhaka and Narayanganj-between Wednesday and Thursday.

In Comilla, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported "gunfight" with police in Rajapara South Choumohoni in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased, Tofayel, 23, was a listed drug dealer, accused in six cases.

Four members of the police were injured in this incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakkhin police station, Mamun ur Rashid, said: "Acting on a tip-off, we raided the area around 3am. After seeing the police, Tofayel and his associates opened fire on us."

"In retaliation, we fired back- injuring Tofayel. The on-duty doctors pronounced him dead when he was taken to Comilla Medical College," he added. 

Police recovered one locally-made gun, a sharp weapon and four hundred yaba pills from the spot.

In Dhaka, the alleged leader of top criminal gang, Seven Star Group was killed in a reported "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Mohammadpur.

The incident occurred near Bosila Garden City early on Thursday, RAB officials confirmed via text message.

The reported gang leader is deceased Tanvir Ahmed Anik, 36.

Two RAB members were also injured in the incident.

The elite force also recovered a pistol, a revolver with bullets, with some sharp weapons from the scene.

In Narayanganj, a drug trader was killed in a "gunfight" with Detective Branch (DB) of police on Wednesday night.

The deceased is Lipu, 30.

Police said, he was a local criminal, drug trader, and inter-district thief. Around 15 cases have been filed against him including for: firearms, drugs, injustice against women, attempted murder, and theft.

Police confirmed the matter at a press briefing on Thursday. 

They said that after arresting Lipu, DB police inspector Anamul Haque sent a team to recover drugs and arms. 

When they reached the scene, Lipu's associates got into a "gunfight" with police. 

Bullet-ridden Lipu was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The dead body has been sent for autopsy.

Police recovered one one-shooter gun and one round of bullets.

Three people have been injured in the incident-including DB police members.
