4 pharmacy owners fined for selling expired medicines

Four pharmacy owners have been fined for selling expired medicines in Jamalpur.

Two separate mobile courts fined them a total of Tk58,500 on Tuesday.

The pharmacies also charged consumers more than the maximum retail price for medicines. 

District Executive Magistrate Snigdha Das led the drive at the Brahmaputra Char medicine market adjacent to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital, said a press release. 

She fined Md Lutfur Rahman Tk35,000 under section 40 of Consumer Rights Act for charging extra money over the maximum retail price for the medicines.

The owner of Mita Medical Hall, Md Bojlur Rahman, was also fined Tk1500 under sections 18(A) and 27 for selling expired medicine at his pharmacy.

In a separate drive, Executive Magistrate Md Abdullah Khan fined pharmacy owners Md Nurul Islam and Md Zakir Hossain Tk20,000 and Tk2000, respectively.
