A 150 brilliant students from Rangpur district studying at various public universities have got scholarships.
Rangpur Foundation organized the scholarship distribution ceremony , hosting a a reception for five successful citizens at Town Hall here on Tuesday afternoon.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam attended the function as the chief guest with President of Rangpur Foundation and Deputy Commissioner, Enamul Habib, in the chair, reports BSS.
Additional District Magistrate Shukria Pervin delivered the welcome speech, narrating the social welfare oriented activities of Rangpur Foundation.
Educationist, Professor Mohammad Shah Alam, Acting President of the Awami League district unit, Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of city Awami League Shafiur Rahman Shafi, and its General Secretary, Tushar Kanti Mandal, spoke as special guests.
The speakers said meritorious students are the backbone of the nation and they would lead the country to realize the dream of building a prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla,’ as envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The chief guest distributed Tk 3,000 to each of the 150 meritorious scholarship recipient students of Begum Rokeya University, and Tk 5,000 each to 50 meritorious students studying at various public universities.
He also distributed crests to five successful citizens of Rangpur, including Khademul Islam Basunia (posthumously), Sonia Sobhan, Razeka Khatun, MA Maruf Kain, and Iqbal Hossain (posthumously), for their notable contributions to society.
He also presented Tk10,000 to the family of critically ill freedom fighter Nurul Alam Khokan for medical treatment.
Terming meritorious students as the backbone and asset of the nation, the speakers called upon them to devote themselves to studies to develop their talents by acquiring knowledge to lead the nation in the future.
The chief guest congratulated the scholarship recipients and asked them to learn the real history of the nation, their heroic forefathers, and the Great War of Liberation, to become truly patriotic and knowledgeable citizens.
