Khaleda securing bail proves judiciary is independent, says the minister
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader says construction work for the capital’s Elevated Expressway will be completed before the Dhaka Metro Rail project.
"The construction of the capital’s Metro Rail will be completed by 2030 but the Elevated Expressway will be completed in three phases before the metro rail," said Quader, who is also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, while visiting the project area in the capital’s Kawla neighbourhood, on Tuesday.
He also said the first phase of the Elevated Expressway will begin from the capital’s airport area to Banani Railway Station, while the third phase will begin from Moghbazar to Shonir Akhra.
“The Elevated Expressway construction will be complete by March 2022, while the first phase is expected to be completed by January 2020,” he added.
Speaking about the on-going cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the minister said the judiciary has been working independently and the government does not intervene in judicial processes.
“The bail approval for Khaleda Zia today (Tuesday) proves the judiciary has been working independently. However, she will not be freed until she secures bail in all ongoing cases against her,” he added.
