5 women raped, one killed in 5 separate districts

In Bagerhat, a widow was raped by her relative

At least 3 children, and three women were raped, with one of the children killed in separate districts of the country in the last two days (Sunday and Monday).

In Savar, a child was raped by Tushar, 26, in Kathgara of Savar upazila. 

On Sunday night, in the absence of the child's parents, Tushar entered the child's room and raped her. Hearing her scream, neighbours caught Tushar in the act and handed him over to the police.

Ashulia police station OC, Javed Masud, confirmed the matter and said: "The child was sent to the One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and a case has been filed.”

In Gopalganj, a woman was raped by her neighbour, Shimul, 26, in Manikdah village of Gopalganj Sadar.

On Sunday night, Shimul sneaked into the woman's room and raped her in her sleep. 

The woman woke up, fought back, and handed him over to police.

Gopalganj Sadar police station OC, Md. Monirul Islam, confirmed the matter saying: "The accused has been arrested and the woman was taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for a medical test."

In Bagerhat, a widow was raped by her relative, Sharif, 28, in Uttar Sutalari village of Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat, early Monday morning.

Sharif lured the woman to his house and he and his friend raped her.

The woman filed a case with Morrelganj police station under the Women and Child Repression Act.

Morrelganj police station OC, KM Azizul Islam, said the accused was arrested and the woman taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for tests.

In Tangail, a mentally challenged woman was gang-raped and a minor died from injuries sustained when she was rape a year ago.

In Kurua of Nandail upazila, a mentally challenged woman was reportedly gang-raped.

The alleged rapists, Rajib, 30, and Anis, 52, lured the woman to Rajib’s tea stall and gang-raped her, videotaping the act on a mobile phone on Sunday.

According to the woman’s cousin, the woman came home after being raped and told him about the incident. He filed a case with Kalihati police station under the Women and Child Repression Act.

Kalihati police station OC Mir Mosharrof Hossain said: “A case has been filed by the victim’s cousin. Acting on the case we arrested Anis and sent him to Tangail court. The woman was taken to Tangail General Hospital for treatment. We are hoping to arrest Rajib, the other accused, soon.”

In Malati, Kalikati upazila, an eight-year-old rape victim died undergoing treatment following complications from the rape, which occurred one year ago.

According to the victim’s father, rape victim Ashiya was being treated as an outpatient  at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), staying with relatives. Late Monday night, she complained of tremendous pain and died on her way to the hospital.

According to the case statement, Ashiya was raped by a 15-year-old boy, Mahbub, on June 9, 2018. The rapist, Mahbub, lured the girl to his home and raped her. The victim's family took the critically injured girl to Tangail General Hospital and when her condition worsened she was transferred to DMCH.

Kalihati police station OC, Mir Mosharrof Hossain, said: “We arrested and sent the rapist Mahbub to court last year. He confessed to his crime in the ongoing case.

Pabna: Police arrested a Pabna man on Sunday from Shahbag, Dhaka, on account of having sexually assaulted an eighth grader.

The accused, Mojammel Haque, headmaster of Ishwardi Alhajj Textile High School, was on the run for a case filed under the Women and Child Repression Act-10.

According to the case statement, Mojammel took the girl aside on the school premises where she was playing with friends, and assaulted her. When her friends came to her rescue, he fled the scene. The girl filed a case with Ishwardi police station on May 28.

Ishwardi police station OC, Bahauddin, confirmed the incident.
