The man was allegedly purchasing yaba pills at the time
Md Rasel Mahmud, 36, has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The incident happened on Saturday around 4am.
Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Prodip Kumar Das said: “a gunfight broke out between police and drug traders.”
“At one point, Police Superintendent (SI) Berahan Uddin Bhuiyan, Constable Habib Hossain, Shojib Sarker, and Tuhin Hassan were shot.”
“One of the wounded criminals was admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital – where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”
“Police recovered one gun, five thousand yaba pills, and nine rounds of bullets from the scene.”
He said Rasel came to Teknaf from Narayanganj to buy yaba pills from drug trader Amir Hamza.
There are many drug cases against Rasel Mahmud at Narayanganj police station.
His body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar upazila hospital morgue.
A drug case has been filed against him.
