Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a gang of six drug peddlers from Dhaka and Gazipur districts on Friday.
Police also seized 10,000 yaba pills and a Shyamoli Paribahan bus.
Acting on a tip off, the Rab members arrested yaba carrier and driver of Shyamoli Paribahan Nur Alam (42) from Mohakhali in Dhaka and 5 drug peddlers including drug queen Bobmee Mamtaj (35) from the Sreepur upazila in Gazipur district on the same day.
Muhommod Mohiuddin Faruki, company commander of Rab-2 said, on the basis of information, a team of RAB conducted drive in the Mohakhali area around 9am, arrested Nur Alam, recovered 5000 yaba pills from his possession and seized a Shyamoli Paribahan bus.
Based on the information given by Nur Alam, Rab arrested Bombee Mamtaj, Rubel (27), Parul (33), Taslima (21) and Siraj (23) from Sreepur upazila and recovered another 5000 yaba pills and cash Tk38,000 from them.
Mohiuddin Faruki, said Parul, Taslima and Siraj, inhabitants of Cox’s Bazar district, with the help of Nur Alam, used to collect yaba pills and sell them to Mamtaj and Rubel as per their demand, on a regular basis. They have been engaged in this trade for the past 3 to 4 years.
Nur Alam himself is a drug addict and takes Tk7 to Tk10 commission for carrying every yaba pill.
Legal action will be taken against the culprits, RAB said.
