Kurigram Jubo League Convener advocate Ruhul Amin Dulal on behalf of Sohel's family reportedly proposed the child's family hide the incident, assuring them of a Tk10,000 payment for keeping the incident under wraps

A fifth-grade girl was reportedly raped by Sohel, 24, repeatedly for about three months in the municipality of Kurigram Sadar upazila and the family of the accused reportedly threatened the family of the child into  a cover up of the incident.

According to locals, on Thursday, some neighbours saw Sohel sexually harassing the child. Sohel and his family members then became worried and threatened the child's family into hiding the incident and not informing the police about it.

Kurigram Jubo League Convener advocate Ruhul Amin Dulal on behalf of Sohel's family reportedly proposed the child's family hide the incident, assuring them of a Tk10,000 payment for keeping the incident under wraps.

But the family refused the proposal. The Jubo League leader again threatened them and raised the offer to Tk20,000 and made the family keep the child at her grandfather's house for about six months.

A neighbour said: "After the incident, the child's family is being threatened frequently to cover up the incident."

When asked about the incident, advocate Dulal said that no rape  occurred.

Kurigram Sadar police station OC (Investigation) Raju Ahmed said: "We received no complaints regarding the incident. If a complaint is filed, we will take the necessary legal action."
