The OC has been absconding after a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against him on April 16
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain will be arrested soon.
“It is difficult to arrest someone when he or she goes into hiding, but there is no lack of effort (from the government) to find him out. I hope he will be arrested soon, and action will be taken against him,” he said.
Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League, came up with the remarks while addressing a press conference at the secretariat on Monday over contemporary issues.
Replying to another question, Quader said he talked to the home minister on the issue, and the Home Ministry is very sincere about arresting Moazzem.
The government has a strong stance over the issue, and the prime minister is serious about the trial of Sonagazi madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, he said.
“The government does not have any negligence or weakness over the issue,” Quader added.
Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan said on Sunday, the former OC of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain will have to face the music for his role in the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat.
On April 16, Dhaka Cybercrime Tribunal issued the arrest warrant against Moazzem for recording the statement of the victim on video, and spreading it on social media.
The OC has been absconding since then.
Nusrat, 18, who was an Alim examinee, was set on fire by Sirajuddaula’s followers on April 6 for refusing to withdraw the rape attempt case that her family had filed against him. She died from the injuries four days later.
According to the case details, the victim went to Sonagazi Model police station to file a case against Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal Sirajuddaula on March 27 for sexually assaulting her the day before.
Moazzem recorded a video of her statement without her consent, while asking her offensive, and insulting questions. The video then emerged on various social media platforms. It was alleged that Moazzem had put up the video.
