Police arrested two bullet-hit gang-rape suspects from Baldakhal in Daudkandi upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The two gang-rape suspects were injured in a gunfight with the police in Baldakhal on the same day.
Police arrested Golam Rabbi and Rabbi Ahmed after the gun battle and admitted them to Comilla Medical College Hospital in their custody, said M Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Police Station.
Police also arrested accused Al Amin on Saturday when he confessed to his involvement in the incident.
The OC said Golam Rabbi had developed a romantic relationship with the victim, 20, a worker at a garment factory in Chittagong city following their acquaintance on Facebook.
He asked the girl, an inhabitant of Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali, to come to his house saying his parents gave their consent to marriage and they wanted to see her in person.
When the girl reached Daudkandi on Friday midnight by bus from Chattogram, Golam Rabbi and his friends Al Amin, Rabbi Ahmed, and Rafique, took her to a fish enclosure in Malikhil of the upazila, and raped her in turns throughout the night, the OC said.
Following a complaint filed by the victim, police arrested Al Amin on Saturday when he confessed to his involvement in the incident, Rafiqul said.
Around 3pm on Sunday, a police team conducted a drive in the Baldakhal Sluice Gate area to arrest the others accused. But they opened fire on law enforcement compelling them to retaliate which triggered a gunfight, the OC said. Golam Rabbi and Rabbi Ahmed sustained bullet wounds in the gunfight, the OC added.
Four policemen were also injured. Police recovered a pipe gun, three bullets, and some sharp weapons from the spot, he said.
