Suspected criminal killed in Nawabganj ‘gunfight’

A suspected criminal has been killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka.

The incident occurred at Majhirkanda area early on Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased, Ripon, 35, hailing from Rajoir in Madaripur district, had 14 cases filed against him, including murder and robbery.

Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station, said: “Acting on information that a group of criminals was preparing to commit robbery, a team of police went to the spot around 1am.

“As the team reached there, the criminals opened fire at them, triggering a gunfight.”

After the skirmish, Ripon's body was recovered from the spot.
