The infrastructure of the Sheikh Hasina Cultural Village—the first and only cultural village of Bangladesh—is near completion.
Built across eight acres of land located in the centre of Jamalpur city, project costs have amounted to around Tk105 crore.
Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kabir said: "Apart from cultural activities, there will be opportunities for social events. The cultural village will play an important role in fulfilling social and cultural needs of the common people of Jamalpur district."
Besides cultural practices, arrangement of all types of entertainment will be in available in the village. Many cultural organizations will be allotted rooms for cultural practices.
Residents of the area are also expected to be benefited by the cultural village, who believe that the village will play an important role in promoting traditional cultural practices and healthy entertainment.
Jamalpur Shilpakala Academy Instructor Sushanta Kanu, Sanchari Music School President Selina Begum, Lalon Academy President Advocate Md Yusuf Ali, human rights activist Md Jahangir Alam, poet and journalist Sazzad Ansari and many more have praised the cultural village.
They termed Jamalpur as one of the most important districts in the Mymensingh division in terms of cultural heritage. Many traditional artists were born in this district and it still has an ongoing practice of different traditional performance arts including music, dance, acting and poetry recitation.
The Sheikh Hasina Cultural Village aims to bring together the various cultural organizations of Jamalpur.
The village will have an open podium, a 10-storey building to allot rooms for cultural organizations, a shaheed minar, a museum and an auditorium.
Additionally, the village will include a lake with pedal boat rides, water fountains, restaurants, and walkways, along with accommodation performers, associates and organizers from remote areas.
Local cultural activists think that the Sheikh Hasina Cultural Village will play a major role in promoting traditional practices and cultural development in the area.
People think that the country's first cultural village in Jamalpur will enrich not only Jamalpur but also the Bangladesh's cultural heritage as a whole.
