Suspected drug peddler killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

BGB recovered 3,000 yaba pills from the deceased’s possession

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported “gunfight” with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in Adarsha Sadar Upazila of Comilla.

The incident occurred in Ghilatoli, near the Shahpur border area, around 3am on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Helal Uddin, son of Sundar Ali of Bajgadda of the upazila.

Lt Col Abu Mohammad Mahiuddin, commanding officer of BGB 10, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB 10 conducted a drive in the area. Criminals opened fire when the border guards approached.

“Helal was caught in the line of fire and sustained gunshot wounds,” said the BGB official.

Later, he was taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

BGB also recovered 3,000 yaba pills from his possession.

Helal had several drug and smuggling related cases filed against him.
