At least 20 people including police were injured in clash between people of two villages over a trifling matter in Brahmanbaria on Friday morning.
The clash broke out between residents of the Khatihata village of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila and the Kuttapara village at Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Accoding to police and locals, Dhanmia from the Kuttapara village went to the Khatihata Bazar area to purchase meat. At one point, Dhanmia had a clash with the meat seller over the purchase. Later the clash spread in the area, leaving about 20 people including police pinjured. After about one and a half hours, police brought the situation under control.
The injured were given primary treatment.
Sarail and Brahmanbaria Sadar police station officials said, the clash started with the purchasing of meat. Following the clash between the people of the two villages, all vehicular movement was disrupted, resulting in a traffic jam along the Comilla-Sylhet and Dhaka-Sylhet highwaya for at least one and a half hours.
Later, on basis of the information about the clash, additional police from Sarail and Brahmanbaria went to the spot and brought the situation under control using at least 50 rounds of shotgun bullets and about 20 rounds of tear gas shells.
The names of the injured were not immediately known. Preparations are underway to file a case over the incident.
