Reckless driving has been blamed for the fatalities
At least six people were killed and dozens of others injured in separate road accidents across the country on Thursday.
The accidents took place in Sirajganj, Bogra, Sherpur, Naogaon and Bhola districts, our correspondents confirmed.
In Sirajganj, a private car driver and a passenger were killed in a horrific accident that took place in Tarash upazila’s Harinachara area.
According to our correspondent, the Dhaka-registered car flipped over after the driver lost control at the wheel and crashed into a roadside tree, on Thursday morning.
The driver and a car passenger died at the scene before help could arrive.
The deceased were identified as driver Rubel Molla, 30, of Faridpur district’s Bhajandanga village, and his passenger Emarat Hossain, 45, of Boalmari upazila in the same district.
According to reports, at least 19 people were killed and scores injured in several road accidents in Sirajganj district over the Eid holidays.
In Bogra, a pick-up van driver was crushed to death by another vehicle at Kunderhaat bus stand in Nandigram area on Wednesday evening.
The deceased, Kashem Ali, 42, was from Nandigram upazila.
Kunderhaat police outpost Sub-inspector Kajol Kumar Nandi said: “A speeding pick-up van lost control, veered off the road and rammed into a parked pick-up van at the Kunderhaat bus stand, killing the driver of the stationary van and injuring six others, including passengers and pedestrians.”
The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital. Critically injured driver Kashem Ali succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning. Another injured, Emdad Hossain, was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
Police detained Shafiqul Islam, the driver responsible for the fatal accident, and seized the vehicle.
In Sherpur, a bus driver died in a head-on collision between two buses at Garidaha around 11:45am on Thursday.
The accident occurred when a Bogra-bound Korotoa bus collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound Apu Paribahan bus, killing driver Shahidul Islam of the Korotoa bus on the spot.
Police impounded both the buses, but the driver and supervisor of Apu Paribahan managed to flee the scene.
A case has been filed in connection with the accident, said police.
In Naogaon, a young man died after a motorcycle hit his rickshaw on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rakibul Hasan, 23.
According to our correspondent, Rakibul was riding on a rickshaw when a speeding motorbike hit the three-wheeler at Eyaad Ali intersection, throwing him off onto the road.
Critically injured Rakibul died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Naogaon sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Sohrawardy Hossain confirmed the matter.
In Bhola, two brothers were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle along Bhola-Char Fassion road at Borhanuddin upazila.
The deceased are Iqbal, 26, and Shohag, 20.
The accident took place on Thursday afternoon near Baro Manika area under Borhanuddin Upazilla. The deceased two siblings were from Daulotkhan’s Syedpur Union.
Borhanuddin Police station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Anamul Haque told Dhaka Tribune that two brothers, Iqbal and Shohag, were riding on a motorbike heading towards Daulotkhan from Borhanuddin.
He said the deadly accident took place at Boro Manika market area, when their motorbike collided head-on to a bus coming from the opposition direction. Among, one brother died on the spot.
Another brother with serious injuries was taken to Borhanuddin upazila health complex by locals where the man passed away.
On information, police recovered the bodies of the two brothers. Officer-in-charge (OC) said no cases were filed till 5:00pm.
