Tofail: Bangladesh soon to be free from poverty

The Bhola 1 lawmaker was in the district distributing clothes to the poor

Former commerce minister, and sitting MP from Bhola 1 constituency, Tofail Ahmed said, Bangladesh is currently on the path to becoming free from poverty.

The lawmaker was in Bhola town’s Obaidul Haque College ground, on Saturday afternoon, distributing clothes to local poors of the district ahead of Eid.

While speaking at the program as chief guest he said: “This year’s budget will include 93 lakh people. Previously, Bangladesh had a poverty rate of 44%. Now, it has   decreased to around 20%-21% and the rate of people living under poverty is under 11%.”

“Earlier during fishing bans, the government would have 40kg rice distributed to each fisherman. From now, the government will provide 44kg.”

Tofail concluded by saying: “Bangladesh is definitely moving forward, and has seen much development under the leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

District Awami League General Secretary Abdul Momin Tolu, Tofail’s daughter Dr Taslima Ahmed, District Awami League Organizing Secretary Hossain Biplob, among others were present at the program.
