BNP leader killed in knife fight with son

A BNP leader has been stabbed to death by his son over a monetary dispute in Nondigram upazila of Bogra.

The incident occurred in Purba Para area of the upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased, Anwar Hossain, 50, was the BNP joint secretary general of Bogra municipality unit.

Police is yet to arrest Anwar’s son, Rony Ahmed, 25, as he is on the run after the incident.

Nondigram police station OC Shawkat Kabir said: “A domestic dispute resulted in the knife fight between father and son. Anwar Hossain died from his injuries, while his son remains a fugitive.”

According to local and police sources, father and son locked themselves into an argument when Rony, a human haulier driver, failed to account for his earnings and expenses. 

At one stage of the altercation, Rony stabbed his father Anwar with a knife. In response, Anwar also stabbed Rony. They both got injured. However, Anwar’s injury was more severe.

They were both taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where Anwar succumbed to his injuries. After hearing about the death of his father, Rony fled the hospital.
