89 officials are protesting for four months of due payments
A group of Jute Mill officials in Narsingdi held the general manager of the organization captive, protesting their arrears.
At least 89 UMC Jute Mill officials took part in holding the general manager and protested for three hours.
The protest was organized by the UMC branch of Bangladesh Pattshilpo Karmakarta Samity (BPKS) on Wednesday.
The employees protested by besieging and confining General Manager Gazi Shahadat Hossain to his office. They also stopped working between 11pm and 2pm.
President Nejamul Haque, and General Secretary Saidujjaman Faruque, of BPKS, UMC branch, said the organization has failed to provide four months of outstanding wages and festivity allowances. In this protest they collectively demonstrated by abstaining from work for three hours and besieged the general manager of the mill.
Some officials participating in the protest said they would wait till Thursday morning. If the authorities failed to provide the outstanding wages by then, they would go for an indefinite work strike. They want the Government and Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) to look into the matter.
