Washing plant fined for polluting Karnaphuli River

The DoE fined Innovation Plus Washing Industries Tk1.08 lakh

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Tuesday fined a garments washing plant for polluting the Karnaphuli River by dumping untreated liquid waste.

The DoE fined Innovation Plus Washing Industries Tk1.08 lakh. The factory is located in the Bayezid BISCIC Industrial Area of Chittagong.

DoE Chittagong unit Director Azadur Rahman Mollick penalized the washing plant in a hearing at the DoE office.

On Sunday, a DoE team conducted a drive at the washing plant and found the enterprise illegally discharging liquid waste into the river. The polluting enterprise was served a show-cause notice.

DoE assistant director (Technical) of Chittagong Metro, Sangjucta Das Gupta, said the factory was asked to suspend all operations until they set up an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
