Drug trader killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

Around 1,200 yaba pills were recovered from the scene

A drug trader has been killed in a "gunfight" with police in Comilla. 

The incident occurred around 2am on Thursday near Palpara Bridge in the sadar upazila.

The deceased is Zakir Hossain alias Kala Zakir, 35.

The matter was confirmed by Kotwali model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Salam Mia.

The OC said: “Acting on a tip-off, we went to the Palpara Bridge area to arrest Zakir. He and his associates fired at us upon realizing we were at the scene.

“We fired back in self-defence. Zakir was shot during the incident.”

Police said Zakir was rescued and sent Comilla Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Around 1,200 yaba pills, one LG firearm, and two rounds of bullets were recovered from the scene. 

Police said there are over 18 cases lodged against Zakir at multiple police stations.
