The sale began at 9am and continued till 5pm
Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance train tickets in Chittagong ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the country.
However, the sale of tickets remained suspended for some time at Chittagong Railway Station due to a technical glitch in the server of the firm responsible for the station's computer networking system, causing immense suffering to the passengers.
A large crowd was seen at the scene, standing in long queues and collecting tickets on Wednesday.
Abul Kalam Azad, station manager at Chittagong Railway Station, told Dhaka Tribune that they have informed the authorities about the server glitch.
"Any technical glitch in the server is quite natural due to heavy (online) traffic. However, we are optimistic that the problem will not recur over the next days.
“Some 1,200 tickets will be sold every day from the East Zone of Bangladesh Railway. This year, 50% tickets will be sold online, while the remaining will be available at the counters," the station manager added.
Tickets for May 31 were sold on Wednesday. Tickets for June 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be available on May 23, 24, 25 and 26 respectively.
Besides, return tickets for June 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 will be available on May 29, 30, 31, June 1 and 2 respectively, according to Bangladesh Railway.
Ticket sales began at 9am and continued till 5pm. Each person was allowed to buy a maximum of four train tickets.
