Among the arrested, five were wanted criminals
The police were assaulted by noted drug dealers during an anti-drug drive in Hakimpur upazila in the Dinajpur Hili border area.
In this connection, police arrested 10 drug dealers in a number of anti-drug drives from early Tuesday till Tuesday morning.
The arrested were Monisha Begum, 23, Shapla Aktar, 25, Sheuli Begum, 50, Moyna Begum, 40, Anjuara Begum, 32, Khaleda Begum, 40, Pakhi, 35, Mabud Mandol, 42, Saiful Islam, 38, and Ariful Islam, 35.
The arrested were sent to jail. A case was filed against them for resisting arrest and assaulting the police.
Hakimpur police station OC, Anwar Hossain, said: “On Monday afternoon, police conducted an anti-drug drive at one Sheuli Begum’s house in Churihatta of the Hili border area.
“Realizing the police were there, Sheuli locked the doors to her house and other drug dealers in the area came together to attack the police officials and their driver, severely injuring them.”
Among the arrested, five criminals had warrants for their arrest, he added.
