The circular created confusion and also drew criticism from journalists’ organizations and law reporters

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said the Supreme Court will soon clarify and explain its earlier circular requesting that news about sub judice matter not be published or broadcast.

The minister said this to reporters after meeting Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and other justices of the Appellate Division on Monday noon.

When asked about the reason for his visit to the chief justice, the minister said: “I often come to the chief justice’s office. I have talked about the Supreme Court circular. If there is any misunderstanding or ambiguity about it, that will be clarified soon.”

Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court issued a circular requesting that news about cases under trial not be published or broadcast.

The circular said it is unprecedented that many electronic and some print media have reported and published articles on sub judice cases.

The apex court requested that such matter not be published or broadcast.

The circular created confusion and also drew criticism from journalists’ organizations and law reporters

Following the circular, Law Reporters Forum (LRF), a Supreme Court based journalists' organization, expressed shock and demanded withdrawal of the circular.
