Shaon was found lying unconscious
Tagore singer Farhana Yasmin Shaon reportedly committed suicide on Sunday.
Police recovered the body from her home at Sher-e-Bangla Road of Khulna city. Police and physicians think she died from overdosing on sleep medication.
One of her acquaintances, Liton Dhali said: “Shaon divorced her husband six months ago, and since then she had been mentally broken.”
Shaon’s roommate Shahana Alima said Shaon was quite upset on Sunday morning.
At around 10.30am in the morning, when Shahana heard no sound coming out of Shaon’s room, the door of the room was broken, and Shaon was found lying unconscious.
Later, Shaon was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Khulna Sadar police station OC, Humayun Kabir, said: “Shaon seems to have committed suicide.
“But to find out the exact reason of her death, her body has been sent for autopsy.”
After the autopsy, police handed the body over to her family. Shaon was buried at her family graveyard in Satkhira district on Sunday night. An unnatural death case was filed with Khulna Sadar police station.
Shaon was the seretary general of the Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad's Dumuria unit. She was also involved with Sammilito Sangskritik Jote.
The passionate Tagore singer separated from her husband a year ago. She lived with her roommate in Kashemnagar Residence on Sher-e-Bangla Road in Khulna.
