Sale of advance tickets of launch cabins, BRTC bus begins Monday

Anyone can buy the tickets of BIWTC ships at any time as the private sector mainly controls the passenger transportation

The sale of advance tickets of launch cabins on different river routes, and buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), will start on Monday in view of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, officials say.

“About 30 percent advance tickets of launch cabins will be sold online, while 70 percent tickets will sell through counters installed by launch authorities,” Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore M Mahbub-ul Islam said.

In a meeting, the BIWTA, and private launch owners decided to sell advance tickets of launch cabins on different routes from today (Monday), reports BSS.

Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Pranay Kanti Biswas said, five ships of the BIWTC will run on Dhaka-Barishal route on the occasion of Eid, while three ships will ply on Chattogram-Hatiya-Barishal route.

He said, anyone can buy the tickets of BIWTC ships at any time as the private sector mainly controls the passenger transportation.

Some 225 private launches ply on 43 river routes of the country from Sadarghat in Dhaka, he said adding that about 35 lakh passengers will travel by water vessels in the country’s southern region this year.

Meanwhile, BRTC Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan said: “BRTC will start selling advance tickets from different depots, including the ones in Motijheel, Joarsahara, Kalayanpur, Gabtoli, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Jatrabari, Gazipur, and Narayanganj, from May 20.”

A total of 1,089 buses, including 150 newly imported ones, will operate as Eid special service from May 27.

"Of these buses, 649 buses will operate from Dhaka, and 390 from different districts, and upazilas," he added.

“We will keep 50 buses reserved to face any contingency situation,” Farid said.
