Lightning strikes kill six in 2 districts

Three others were injured in lightning strikes

At least six people were  killed in lightning strikes in Cox'sBazar, and Khagrachhari districts of the country on Sunday.

Our Cox's Bazar  correspondent Abdul Aziz said, four people including a Rohingya man, were killed by lightning strikes in Ramu, and Ukhiya upazilas of the district.

In Ramu, several people who were injured by thunderbolt, were taken to Ramu Upazila Health Complex. Among them, Anis, 11, son of Azizul Islam, a resident of Bharuakhali Chowdhury Para in Sadar upazila, died.

The upazila health complex and family planning official, Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter.

Two people were killed, and three others injured as thunderbolt hit them in Tulabagan area around 11:30am.

Deceased Fatema Khatun, 15, and Afnan, 2, were the children of Mawlana Nurul Islam, a resident of the area, said Ramu police station Officer in-Charge Abul Mansur.  

In Ukhiya, Abdus Salam, 55, a resident of Camp D-5 under Kutupalong Rohingya camp, was killed after being hit by thunderbolt, said Ukhiya police station Officer in-Charge  Nurul islam Mazumder.

In Khagrachhari, a  woman and her son died in a lightning strike, our correspondent Nuruchsafa Manik reported.

Ayesha Bibi, 50, and her son Md Momin, 20 died when lightning struck their house in the early hours of the day.

Ayesha’s daughter Aliya Begum, 30, and her other son Arafat Hossain were also injured in the incident.

Locals said all of the injured were admitted to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex.  

Matiranga police station Officer-in-Charge, Syed Zakir said the bodies were handed over to family members.
