Awami League supporter abducted, shot dead in Bandarban

The assailants were in search of his brother, an Awami League leader

An Awami League supporter, Qi Ching Thoai, has been shot dead by assailants in Rajbila union in Bandarban.

The incident occurred in the rubber garden 5 area around 1:30am on Sunday.

Rajbila Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Qi Angpur said: “Qi Ching’s elder brother is the vice president of Awami League ward 5, and the assailants came in search of him.”

“Unable to find him, the assailants abducted businessman Qi Ching and shot him dead in the rubber garden. Unfortunately the assailant group has not been identified,” he said. 

Officer in Charge (OC) of Bandarban Sadar police station Shahidul Islam said: “On information, we have sent our team to the scene.”

Earlier this month, two more members of the Chittagong Hill Tract’s Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) were killed, and one other was abducted.

These recent deaths have spread fear among locals, leaders and politicians living in the hill tract areas.
