There were prior sexual harassment complaints against the accused teacher

A teacher in Jhalakathi has been accused of sexually harassing a tenth-grader by sending her a naked picture of himself with vulgar messages.

The accused, Rezaul Karim, an assistant teacher of biology at Jhalakathi Government Harchandra Girls School, is currently on the run.

The school authorities filed a complaint with the deputy director of divisional secondary education department, seeking punishment of the accused teacher.

On Saturday, Rezaul allegedly sent the schoolgirl a naked photo of himself along with vulgar messages on Facebook. Later, the girl forwarded the messages to a few other teachers.

The matter was then reported to the acting headteacher, Abu Syed Md Farid, who instructed physical education teacher Masum Billa to investigate. Upon investigation, Masum found that the photo was indeed taken in Rezaul’s room.

According to the parents and guardians, there were prior complaints against Rezaul regarding inappropriate behaviour and sexual harassment.

However, on Sunday, Rezaul denied sending the messages and wrote a letter to the acting headteacher, claiming he was being framed with the false accusations.

Regarding the matter, acting headteacher Abu Syed said: “After an investigation, we found the accusations against Rezaul to be true. So, we have notified the higher authorities for his suspension and punishment.

“Previously, there were other complaints against him, but the headteacher, Bishwanath Saha, failed to take any action.”
