Police have arrested another accused in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in front of her husband in Tangail.
The accused, Md Ujjal, 25, was arrested on Wednesday night from Deola area in the city, Mosharraf Hossain, investigation officer of the case and Sadar police outpost’s in-charge, said at a press briefing on Thursday.
"Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the eighth accused in the case. Ujjal was then produced before a court on Thursday afternoon," he added.
On April 12, the woman was raped by several men in three spots of Tangail town all through the night in front of her husband.
Following the incident, police arrested Yusuf Rana, Md Robin, Jahidul Islam, Md Mofiz, Tanvirul Islam Tasin and Ibrahim Ibn Al Beruni. However, another accused, Hasan Shikdar, is still on the run.
On April 13, Yousuf, Robin and Jahidul confessed to committing the heinous crime before a Tangail court.
The same court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Sumon Kumar Sarkar had granted three-days’ remand for three other suspects in the case.
The case was filed by the woman’s husband against eight men with Tangail Sadar model police station.
