SM Jahangir was withdrawn from the post for negligence in handling the Nusrat murder case
Kazi Moniruzzaman has taken charge as the new superintendent of Feni Police.
He took charge on Sunday night after SM Jahangir Alam Sarker was withdrawn from the post for negligence in handling the murder case of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations) Sohel Rana confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Kazi was performing his duty as an additional superintendent of Feni police (Admin) for two years.
SM Jahangir was withdrawn as per recommendation of the investigation committee formed by Police Headquarters over Nusrat’s murder.
Nusrat, an Alim examinee and a student of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa, died on April 10 from injuries, after supporters of madrasa principal Md Sirajuddaula set her on fire on the madrasa premises on April 6.
She had previously lodged a sexual harassment complaint with Sonagazi police station against Sirajuddaula on March 27. He was subsequently arrested and jailed. Nusrat was set on fire when Sirajuddaula's associates failed to intimidate her into withdrawing the complaint.
On April 30, a five-member probe panel led by DIG SM Ruhul Amin submitted its report on the role of the police in Nusrat’s murder case.
