A Chittagong court has placed three accused on a three-day remand in a case filed over an incident where a woman was shot dead in her house earlier in the city.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Al Imran passed the order after hearing a police remand plea on Monday.
The accused are Nabi Hossain, Md Musa and Ahmad Kabir.
Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said the court granted three days’ remand for each of the accused after hearing their plea for a 10-day remand.
On Saturday night, a woman, identified as Bubli Akhter, 35, was shot dead in her own house in Barjaghona Madina Masjid area in the port city.
The victim’s family members filed a murder case with Bakalia police station later that night.
On Sunday, police conducted a drive to arrest Shah Alam, the prime accused in the murder case. Sensing the presence of the police, Alam and his associates reportedly opened fire, triggering a gunfight as the law enforcers fired back. Alam was injured in the shootout, while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, Alam was taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where an on-duty doctor pronounced him dead on arrival, the police said.
Police recovered a foreign-made pistol with three rounds of bullet from the scene of the shootout. They said that the pistol was used for shooting the woman to death.
